Laura Bradley

Founder & Clinical Director | Counsellor | Clinical Supervisor

Laura Bradley is the Founder and Clinical Director of Steadfast Counselling, a practice she founded in 2005 and has grown into a team of counsellors serving clients across Greater Vancouver and online. A Master Therapeutic Counsellor and Registered Counselling Supervisor (MTC, RCS #2022), Laura has more than 30 years of experience in counselling, group facilitation, training, and supervision.

Laura works directly with individuals and couples, with extensive experience in relationships, communication and intimacy, trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and navigating significant life transitions. Alongside her clinical practice, she provides individual, dyadic, and group supervision, supporting counsellors in developing both their clinical work and their professional practice.

Counselling When the Answers Aren’t Straightforward

Laura enjoys working with people whose lives and experiences are complex and don’t always have straightforward answers. Many of her clients are professionals and high achievers who are accustomed to being capable and successful, yet find themselves facing something they haven’t been able to resolve on their own. She also works with people navigating trauma, profound or unexpected loss, relationship difficulties, or longstanding patterns that have been difficult to shift—even when they have sought help before.

With experience, curiosity, and steadiness, Laura helps clients make sense of what is happening beneath the surface and find a way forward that feels meaningful and lasting.

A Relational & Experiential Approach to Counselling

Laura’s approach to counselling is relational, experiential, emotion-focused, and grounded in an understanding of attachment. Her extensive training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) has significantly shaped how she works. While insight and understanding are important, Laura believes that lasting change doesn’t happen through thinking alone. Often, we need the opportunity to experience and process what we are feeling before we can make new meaning of it or begin to see ourselves and our circumstances differently.

Central to Laura’s work is the belief that healing happens in relationship. Some of our deepest hurts occur within important relationships; at other times, the pain comes from someone not being there for us in the way we needed. Therapy offers an opportunity to approach those experiences differently—not alone, but within a safe, attuned therapeutic relationship. In AEDP, this is sometimes described as “undoing aloneness.”

Laura also draws from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), family systems perspectives, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), integrating different approaches according to the needs of the person in front of her.

Helping Couples Repair and Reconnect

Laura’s work with couples is similarly integrative, drawing from many years of training and experience in relationship therapy. She works with couples across a wide range of relationship structures, identities, and stages of life, including LGBTQ+ couples and people in consensually non-monogamous and polyamorous relationships. Her work includes couples healing from betrayal, newer couples wanting to build a strong foundation, and long-term couples wanting to reconnect after years of focusing on careers, family, and other responsibilities.

At the heart of Laura’s couples work is helping people learn how to love well. This means going beyond simply resolving conflict or negotiating compromises and helping partners become more emotionally responsive to one another. Laura helps couples understand and heal what has happened between them, rebuild connection and intimacy, and find ways of showing up for one another that feel genuine rather than obligatory.

Inside a Session with Laura

In sessions, Laura pays close attention to what is happening in the moment—not only to what a client is saying, but also to the emotions and experiences that emerge as they talk. Rather than moving too quickly to explanation or problem-solving, she helps clients stay with and work through those experiences in a supported way.

Laura has a deep capacity to stay present with the full range of human experience, giving clients room to bring forward the painful, complicated, imperfect, and sometimes contradictory parts of their lives. She understands that life is rarely a straight line. We experience loss, make mistakes, hurt and disappoint one another, face things we never expected, and sometimes find ourselves behaving in ways that don’t fit with who we believe ourselves to be.

Laura believes these experiences don’t have to define us. Even in difficult circumstances, we can develop a greater sense of agency—coming to understand that while we may not have chosen what happened to us, we can have a say in how we meet it, what we do with it, and who we want to be moving forward.

Clients can expect Laura to meet them with warmth, openness, and a genuine willingness to go wherever the work needs to go. She is comfortable sitting alongside deep pain and complexity, but therapy with Laura isn’t always serious. There is room for humour and laughter, too. She can be straightforward and challenging when it is helpful, while maintaining a deep respect for the person in front of her. Laura sees all of us as works in progress, continually capable of learning, growing, repairing, and becoming more fully who we want to be.

Outside the Counselling Room

Outside the counselling room, Laura values that same commitment to growth, connection, and engagement in her own life. Relationships with family, friends, and community are deeply important to her, as are health, movement, and continuing to try things that stretch her in new ways. You might find her at Pilates or the gym, working in her garden, training with Search and Rescue, spending time with people she loves—or enthusiastically planning the next gathering or reason to celebrate.

Testimonials

“She can be trusted on every level. She helped me through a very painful personal situation that could have torn my family apart.

With her care, compassion and ability to guide a person through crisis by entering their world without any judgement, she helped me to find the resources to walk through my pain instead of staying stuck in it.

She never gave up on me even when I felt I had given up on myself!”

“I find Laura has the ability to access that inner part of me that believes in “me” and bring it forth. She asks just the right questions to make me look at myself and come to some new realization or access an inner strength that had always been within me.

She always does this with compassion, caring and a great sense of humor too!  She has motivated me to keep going in my schooling and motivated me to deal with my life situation in a healthier way.

She has kept me on track at times when I myself forgot what my “track” actually was.”

“Laura is compassionate and insightful, and she creates a safe space essential to the process of personal transformation.

Laura is profoundly intuitive and seems to ask the right questions at the right time. While she is capable of taking us out of our comfort zones in order that we may face our issues directly she is respectful of boundaries and is willing to wait with us until we can gather courage to take the next step.

I would recommend Laura to anyone seeking personal development and relationship counselling; she is one of those rare people whose energy makes the world seem instantly a better place.”
